Picture Tagging with Dots

I don't know who started the dot trend, but it needs to stop. 

The dots I am talking about is the meta data over a static image allowing you to see information that wouldn't normally be visible.  

Nobody wants a giant dot hovering over their face. 

Am I the only one that can't stand display ads, pre-rolls, and a bunch of garbage that ambushes you every time you try and go to a website? The most innovative tech companies and publishers can't come up with anything better then this?

 ....Come on man!
